Painless Extractions &
Wisdom Teeth Removal

Our primary goal is always to save your natural teeth. However, there are times when a tooth is too badly damaged by decay, severe gum disease, or trauma to be repaired. In these cases, a professional extraction is necessary to stop the spread of infection and relieve your pain.

At Inspire Dental Care in Harare, we understand that the thought of having a tooth pulled can be daunting. Our highly experienced dental surgeons utilize profound local anesthesia and gentle, modern surgical techniques to ensure the entire process is smooth, quick, and entirely painless. If you are in severe pain right now, please contact our Emergency Dentistry team.

Indications

When is an Extraction Necessary?

Severe Decay & Infection

When a cavity has destroyed too much of the tooth structure to support a filling or crown, or if an infection has compromised the bone.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth often lack the space to erupt properly, becoming trapped (impacted) in the jaw, causing severe pain and pushing other teeth out of alignment.

Orthodontic Preparation

In cases of severe overcrowding, extracting one or two teeth creates the necessary space for Braces to align the remaining teeth perfectly.

Post-Extraction Aftercare

Following these simple instructions during the first 24 hours is critical for a fast, comfortable recovery and to prevent complications like "dry socket."

What You SHOULD Do

  • Bite Firmly: Keep firm pressure on the gauze pad placed by the dentist for at least 30-45 minutes to stop bleeding.
  • Use Ice: Apply an ice pack to the outside of your cheek in 15-minute intervals to reduce swelling.
  • Eat Soft Foods: Stick to yogurt, soup, mashed potatoes, and smoothies for the first two days.
  • Take Medication: Take your prescribed painkillers and antibiotics exactly as directed by our clinical team.
  • Rest: Avoid strenuous physical activity for at least 24 hours to keep your blood pressure stable.

What You MUST AVOID

  • No Straws: The suction can dislodge the blood clot, leading to a painful condition called dry socket.
  • No Smoking: Smoking drastically slows down the healing process and increases the risk of infection.
  • No Spitting or Rinsing: Do not rinse your mouth vigorously or spit forcefully for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid Hot Liquids: Hot coffee or tea can dissolve the healing blood clot.
  • Don't Poke the Area: Keep your tongue and fingers away from the extraction site.
